Release what's inside of you

Needlessly, many people struggle to find their purpose and passion in life. They sit on the sidelines depressed, frustrated, angry because they've settled on a life that is less than abundant, or they are confused as to why they don't feel more fulfilled. While discovering your purpose and passion in life isn't an instantaneous event nor is it an overnight process, you can learn who you were created to be and what you have been especially endowed to do.

Deep within all of us, there are things that we long to do in life. These things often times have been inside of us since we were very young and we may have pushed them aside to pursue the "grown-up" things in life. Purpose often gets smothered under the pressures of outside forces telling us we have to mature and be more "realistic" in our goals.

What are realistic goals? Is it realistic to believe that you can be the first minority President of the United States? Is it realistic to believe that you can inspire legislation that gives constituional rights to all citizens? Is it realistic to believe that you can be a college dropout and become one the world's richest people? Is it realistic to believe that you can be an international superstar having grown up singing in a hair salon? Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, Bill Gates, and Beyonce Knowles might all answer yes!

It is my sincere belief that you have pieces to the purpose puzzle of your life, you just may not have the picture of the box yet to know what it's supposed to look like. But determining what those pieces are and formulating a vision for your life can begin by asking yourself a few key questions:

  1. When I was a child, what was it that I wanted to be when I "grew up"?
  2. For some reason, I just can't stop thinking about _____. And it's been that way for years.
  3. What talents or skills do I have that come seemingly natural to me or that I take for granted?
  4. What am I doing when I feel like I'm in the zone? I wish I could do this all of the time.
  5. When I see ______ happening, I can't help but to jump in and do something about it.
  6. What is it that you do when you see that thing from statement #5 happening?
  7. What types of people does my heart go out to the most?
  8. I can't stop thinking that I would love to do _______.
  9. What were teh circumstance of my life the last time I felt fulfilled, balanced, and joyful?
  10. If someone told me they would pay me $1 million to be of service to another person using only the things I'm good at and enjoy doing, I would do ________ for who?

While the above questions won't necessarily define your life's purpose to you, they can begin to help you realize the pieces to the puzzle.
