When the organizers of this year's Relay For Life event in Flagler Beach began tossing around ideas to raise money for the cause the usual ideas were brought up. Bake sales, car washes, and the like. Suddenly, in the ocean side beach bar where they were holding the meeting, a light bulb began flickering above their heads. "Wait a minute," said one committee member, "we're in Flagler Beach. In Flagler Beach we do three things. Surf, fish, and drink!" And like that, the Flagler Beach Relay For Life Pub Crawl was born!
This Sunday (Feb 12), at around noon, over 100 thirsty crawlers will meet at Hurricane Patty's under the Flagler Beach bridge. From there (about 1:00pm), the group will head up SR-100 and split into two groups. One group will head to Finn's Beachside Pub and the other will go up the street to Golden Lion Cafe. At about 2:00pm, the groups will switch places before heading to the brand new Johnny D's Beachside Bar & Grille at around 3:00pm. At around 4:00 the group will split again and head to Fisherman's Net and Flagler Wine & Cheese Shop. After hitting both places, the groups will recombine and return to Hurricane Patty's where food and taxis will be waiting.
Participants paid $25 for tickets which include two beverages and an appetizer, along with an event t-shirt and other giveaways. Organizers have said the event is sold out but, since it is a fundraiser, I'm sure if you arrived at Hurricane Patty's during the registration they would happily take your money.
The organizers are hoping to raise around $3000 for the Flagler Beach Relay For Life. The main event is April 14th-15th at Wadsworth Park in Flagler Beach. For more information about this event and Relay For Life in general, visit www.relayforlife.org/flaglerbeachFL.
