Clevelanders get one more chance to celebrate this year's local maple syrup crop and at the same time herald the arrival of Spring at the 85th annual Geauga County Maple Festival in Chardon, Ohio on Thursday, April 24, Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. Most of the activities are free but there are some fees for a few activities (amusement rides and the pancake breakfast among them).
Geauga County Maple Festival With a theme of "Spring Golden Sunshine -- MAPLE," this year's Festival will be held on the historic Chardon Square.
Pancakes in the Park (served with real Geauga County maple syrup) will be offered in the Festival pancake tent on the Square on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. for $8. The breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, 2 sausage links and a drink.
During the Festival there will be free live entertainment with music provided by Paul Kovac and Friends, Big in Japan, the Jasmine Dragons and the Chardon Polka Band.
Among some of the activities will be amusement rides (for a fee), an arts & crafts show, a baking contest, a junior tractor pull, a pancake eating contest and two "Sap Runs" (one mile and 5 mile races).
Other special events include an invitational lumberjack competition, the crowning of the Maple Queen, a maple syrup auction, a karaoke contest and the must-see bathtub races down Main Street on Chardon Square.
The Festival will hold two Grand Parades (One on Saturday and one on Sunday at 3 p.m.).
Hours for the Geauga County Maple Festival are noon - 10 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Parking is available on and around Chardon Square for approximately $5. You can also partake of a free shuttle bus from the Sheetz Shopping Plaza.
