According to the Red Deer Advocate, Calgary-raised Chris Reitsma, who played seven seasons of Major League Baseball with the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners from 2001-2007 was one of eleven people inducted Thursday into Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Red Deer.
Reitsma had 37 career saves, 15 saves with the Braves in 2005, and 12 saves with the Reds in 2003. He also had outstanding control in his career. He had 359 strikeouts and 164 walks in 609 innings pitched.
Reitsma was joined by Olympic speed skating silver medallist Jeremy Wotherspoon of Red Deer, Olympic diving bronze medallist Blythe Hartley of Edmonton, Paralympic medallist Dean Kozak of Edmonton, chuckwagon driver Jason Glass of High River, former Alberta Sports Hall of Fame Chairman and Hockey Alberta President Orest Korbutt of Edmonton, former Lethbridge Collegiate Institute basketball and football coach Jim Whitelaw, former University of Alberta women’s field hockey coach Dr. Dru Marshall of Edmonton, rodeo pioneers Earl Bascom and Raymond Knight of Raymond and fly fishing writer Bob Scammell of Red Deer.
The award ceremony will take place on May 24 at Red Deer's Sheraton Hotel.
