The Ocean Running Club held their Annual Reindeer Romp Race on Sunday December 4, 2011 in Brick Township, NJ. The event was held at the Tuscany Restaurant on Rt 88 in the town.
The weather was near ideal for the event with temperatures in the 50’s and not much wind with mostly sunny skies.
The event included a one mile fun run, a kids run of various distances and a 5K race. The 5K started behind the restaurant and took the runners through the adjoining neighborhoods on a two loop course. Bill Winterbottom of the Ocean Running Club led all runners on his bike through the course.
The men’s winner was Brian Quilty age 22 a recent graduate of Rowan University in a time of 16:58. Brian came in second in the recent Matawan Turkey Trot.
For the women it was Cynthia Cirri age 44 in a time of 22:42. For Cynthia it was her first ever win of a race. She owes her success to Bella her dog who she considers her trainer and coach that she runs with every morning as well as he number one Athletic supporter her husband John. Cynthia remarked after the race ”not bad for a grandmother”.
After the race runners were treated to a buffet courtesy of the Tuscany Restaurant inside the giant tent set up in their parking lot. Awards were then presented by members of the race committee.
Congratulations to the Ocean Running Club for another great Reindeer Romp.
