If you are interested in experiencing the healing energy of Reiki but are not sure if you want to commit the time or money to a private session, consider attending a community Reiki circle. Reiki circles are a fun, affordable introduction to Reiki in a social setting. In the Ft. Lauderdale area, Reiki circles are held every day of the week through a variety of venues.
Reiki energy healing is a gentle, safe spiritual healing practice that can be used to ease virtually any health complaint or simply to increase personal wellness. It is a low- to no-contact therapy, so it is especially ideal in cases of pain or for those who do not wish to be touched.
Though it is classified as a form of energy healing by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), Reiki practitioners do not direct or manipulate energy. Instead, the practitioner meditates and becomes a channel through which Reiki, or "universal life energy," is able to flow to the recipient. The aim of Reiki practice is to bring balance to the recipient's "biofield," the subtle energy field that is purported to surround and permeate the human body.
During Reiki, practitioners lightly touch or hover their hands above different places on the recipient's body while the recipient sits or lies comfortably. Generally, a practitioner spends one minute or more over each spot. Many people report feelings of warmth, tingling, or well-being as they receive Reiki. Some even fall asleep.
During a Reiki circle, recipients sit in chairs that have usually been arranged in a circle. There can be half a dozen to a dozen--or more--people participating at any one time. The event usually begins with a short introduction to Reiki and to how the circle will work. Then, recipients are asked to close their eyes as they are led on a short guided meditation. As soft music plays, Reiki practitioners circle the room, performing brief Reiki treatments on each seated person. The circle usually lasts an hour; each recipient may receive Reiki a number of times during the circle, depending on the amount of participants and the number of practitioners present.
Reiki circles are held at hospitals, spas, healing centers, and other community and private venues. Many circles ask for donations; others ask for a low flat fee. Some are free.
