What does it mean to live life to the fullest and celebrate achievement and success in a modish way? It certainly means different things to different people but most everyone can at least agree that life is much better and more enriching when we live it with gusto and celebrate with zeal. This life ideal is the core concept behind Crown Royal Whisky’s “Reign On” campaign- a new advertising effort recently launched with a social gathering that I attended here in Houston on February 16, 2013, at the Black Finn Restaurant and attended by NBA legend Dr. J, hip- hop producer 9th Wonder, and E! News host Terrence J.
Do You Reign On?
What exactly does Crown Royal mean when it suggests that we all “Reign On” and how do the three individuals at the event exemplify these qualities? Well, Crown Royal launched this new campaign because it feels that each of us should live life to the fullest and celebrate successes in style. Or in other words, we should all strive to “Reign On” and each of the three celebrity guests at the Black Finn launch party is an excellent example of living life and celebrating success.

The VIP dinner and whisky tasting provided a nice setting for Dr. J, 9th Wonder, and Terrence J. to speak to the audience and share examples, past and present, relating to their own Reign On experiences. Not only did the attentive audience members have a chance to see the advertisement commercials, they also had a chance to hear each of these men explain what Reign On means to them and how their own life experiences parallel those of the Crown Royal advertising campaign.

Is There a Doctor in the House?
Terrence J and 9th Wonder are both stars in their own right, but the spotlight for this event shone most brightly on the Godfather of slam dunks himself, Dr. J or Julius Erving as he is also known. The good Dr. J spent nearly two decades in professional basketball, reinventing the game and (literally) soaring to new heights with several different teams. He was elected to the National Basketball Association Hall of Fame in 1993 and continues to influence the game long after his retirement in 1987.

Dr. J has enjoyed much success off the court as well, serving on the corporate boards for companies such as Darden Restaurants and the Sports Authority. He has also worked with the Orlando Magic as Vice President of RDV Sports and Executive Vice President. His involvement with Crown Royal Whisky and its Reign On campaign is perfectly befitting of a man who excelled at what he did best and celebrated his achievements in style.

Reigning On Today and in the Future
Dr. J, 9th Wonder, and Terrence J. each has multiple Reign On moments and each represent well the core message and spirit of the Crown Royal Whisky advertising campaign. Crown Royal has branched out in new directions over the past few years and now sells many more products than simply its Crown Royal Canadian whisky. The lineup now includes such new brands/styles as Crown Royal Black, Crown Royal Maple, Crown Royal Reserve, and Crown Royal Extra Rare. Each has its own unique personality and style, much like the men who helped make this advertising campaign launch at Black Finn Restaurant in Houston such a great success.
Living life and celebrating achievements are handled differently from one person to the next, but there is no denying that life is most enjoyable and most meaningful when doing what you love best. Take some time today and in the future to recount some of your own Reign On moments. Then have a toast to a job well done; an acknowledgment of the hard work and perseverance, the exhilaration and contentment, when true greatness is reached.
