Catherine: "When the dawn comes, she must fall back to Earth. That must be a brutal fall."

Queen of the Bean

There is a tradition at French Court where every year, a servant girl can be made queen for the day if she finds a bean in her cake. Catherine sees this as her way to sleep Henry a sedative, but unfortunately for Catherine, Queen of the Bean Penelope is a wily one. Penelope is eager to sleep with Henry, in fact, she dominates him in the bedroom, which is something he is not used to. This leads Henry to become smitten with Penelope, and she turns on Catherine by telling Henry of her poison plans. Poor Catherine, she ends up with poison in her wine, thankfully, Nostradamus used the antidote, and so Catherine is recovering nicely.

A Suitor Visits

Greer’s family has set her up with Lord Julian, who seems to be both respectable and polite. Unfortunately for Greer, Julian catches her kissing Leith, and calls off the engagement. It was only a matter of time before the castle found out about Leith and Greer, and now the gossip is everywhere. Leith was imprisoned, but Lord Castleroy (aka Peppercorn) managed to get him conscripted to the army, and Castleroy even ends up getting Greer to say yes to his proposal. It only took Greer being shamed by court to agree to this, which basically says that Greer believes Castleroy to be her only hope at a marriage. After hearing of Lola’s condition, Greer tells her to try her luck with Lord Julian. Lola needs to rush into marriage fast before she starts to show.

Bash Returns to Court

Bash seeks the help of Francis and his father. He wants to go after the Darkness that took Rowan. Unfortunately for Bash, Henry is not in his right state of mind, and so he locks Bash in the dungeon. Bash ends up telling Francis and Mary about Olivia, who convinces Francis that there is something in the woods. Nostradamus finds a tooth in the wound in Olivia’s back (okay, eww), and is able to confirm that the Darkness is man. Francis and Bash go off to search and bond as brothers, and nothing says forgiveness like Bash rescuing Francis from the frozen lake. They are friends again guys, yay!

A Crazed King

Henry’s condition is beginning to draw attention. Mary is concerned when he tells her to make out with Penelope while he watches. It is one thing to make Kenna do it, but the Queen of Scotland? How did Henry think that was going to go over? Francis begins to worry when Henry draws his sword against Bash, and then Henry even admits to paying the guards that tried to kill Henry. It is hard to see how headaches would make Henry become more violent than normal, but alas, that seems to be the current theory running about. On the threat of death, Henry forces Bash and Kenna to wed, and it is hard not to feel terrible for Kenna as she cries her way through the wedding. Now Bash has the swanky title of Head of Horses and Hunt, and he is forced to reside in the castle. Bash and Kenna might find tolerable contentment together in time.
