Reid wins bronze medal at World Skeleton Championships Friday

According to the Canadian Press, Calgary native Sarah Reid has won the bronze medal in women's skeleton at the World Championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Reid posted a four run total time of 4:40.01 on Friday to win her first World Championship medal of her skeleton career. Shelley Rudman of Great Britain, who won the silver medal at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, won the gold medal with a time of 4:38.60. Noelle Pikus-Pace of the United States, who won the 2007 world championship in St. Moritz, won the silver medal with a time of 4:39.17.

Reid struggled after her first run by only posting the eighth fastest time, but finished among the top three finishers in her final three runs to win the bronze medal.

In the men's World Skeleton Championship which concluded on Saturday, Russia's Alexander Tretjakov finished first, followed by Martins Dukurs of Latvia in second and Sergei Chudinov of Russia in third.
