Good news and bad news for boys basketball fans who plan to see Apple Valley and DeLaSalle Saturday night in the Breakdown Sports Tipoff Classic at Hopkins High School.
The good news is that Tyus Jones, the state's top player for Apple Valley and his brother, eight grader Tre will be in uniform. The bad news is Reid Travis, who led DeLaSalle to the state Class AAA title last season, will not be playing against the Eagles due to a stress fracture in his left ankle that occurred when he played AAU Basketball in the offseason.
Travis who also played quarterback on the Islander football team that played in the state tournament in 2012 sat out the season to concentrate on basketball and let his injury heal.
Without the Stanford bound Travis, DelaSalle got off to a solid stat in their season opener by beating the Blake Bears on December 3 86-48.
Islander head coach Dave Thorson mentioned on how the loss of Travis has had an impact on his team.
"Losing a player on the high school level like Reid Travis is like losing Shaquille O'Neal, It's been difficult.
He also mentioned about Travis signing a tender with Stanford.
"Stanford is one of the best universities in the country and it's the right fit for Reid."
It still should be a good game to watch between Apple Valley and DeLaSalle.
