Rehkamp ready to take off in second season with Fargo Force

They say that speed kills. If that is true, Joe Rehkamp is deadly. The Fargo Force forward, who is widely known as one of the fastest players in the United States Hockey League, will showcase his talents for one more season in Fargo before heading to Air Force to play collegiate hockey.

Rehkamp won a state championship in the State of Hockey with Breck. The Minnesota prep school won the Class A State Title in Rehkamp’s senior campaign in 2008-2009. The following season, Breck repeated as state champions and Rehkamp helped lead the Force to the Clark Cup Finals.

If it were not for Rehkamp and his linemates John Stampohar and Chad Demers, Fargo would have had a difficult time reaching the USHL Finals. The three meshed together very nicely and came on strong late in the regular season and into the postseason.

In 52 regular season games, Rehkamp netted six goals and contributed five assists for 11 points. During the postseason, the Plymouth, Minn. native scored three times and added an assists for four points. With regular season and postseason numbers combined, Rehkamp was a +5 and picked up just 48 penalty minutes.

The lightning quick forward has a knack for pestering opponents on the fore-check and being able to catch players from behind on the back-check. In the playoffs, Rehkamp used his speed to score goals on two occasions. Both times, the 5’11”, 175 pound forward burned past a defender and barreled to the net to score.

The Fargo Force and Rehkamp himself are hoping that the 2009-2010 season was just a stepping stone for the 2010-2011 season. With Fargo only returning a handful of forwards, Steve Johnson and the rest of the coaching staff will look to Rehkamp to be a leader and play more of a contributing role. With winning in his blood and a history of being a captain at Breck, Rehkamp will be up for the challenge.

His role will not be the only thing that may be different next season. His linemates may change also. The jury is out on whether or not Demers and Stampohar will return to Fargo next season. However, that should be determined in the near future. The Force will hold tryout camp July 25-28 in West Fargo and their 25-man roster is expected to be released soon after.
