The first election the staff working at the new Registrar of Voters location on Overland Drive will run is the San Diego mayor run off election. Easy to walk to from the County Operations Complex at the top of the drive, voters will have large spaces to get together to take stock on the election results, and discuss the local gains promised by the candidates.
Front doors at the 5201 Ruffin Road location, south of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in Kearny Mesa, closed today for good. Officially, the registrar's name on the building was made a secure window fixture on the building around the corner on Overland Drive on Friday, December 6th. Everything needed for voter services was in order.
Citizens can walk right into Election Plaza in the front, outside the front doors. An outdoor public court. The registrar lines take voter applicants and San Diegans can pick the staff who teach citizens the election steps. The plaza takes in the citizens willing to work together on making their words count like their votes. Tables and chairs stand on the pavement so locals can spend a lot of time at the main elections location.
Common political work will get done under a higher roof. Doors stay open set in the front wall of windows.
Voters now enter and leave through a path straddled by two head sculptures.
Goodbye to the Ruffin Road warehouse. The new Registrar of Voters building will earn its name at 5600 Overland Drive.
