Register now for summer bus excursions

The City of Palmdale has announced its summer schedule of bus excursions to various fun-filled locations and events throughout Southern California.

“We have an outstanding selection of options for people of all ages,” said Palmdale’s Recreation Supervisor Paula Leszkiewicz. “These excursions are fun, affordable, and cover a wide range of interests and activities. Leave the driving to us and relax!”

The summer excursions include:

Cajun & Blues Music Festival – May 24, 9:45 am - 6:30 pm. $26R/$31NR (R- Palmdale resident; NR – non Palmdale resident).

Kick off the summer with Cajun, Creole, Blues and food! The Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival is now in its 25th year. The festival presents live Cajun, Creole, Zydeco and Blues entertainment on multiple stages, crafts and food such as jambalaya, crawfish and BBQ sandwiches.

Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival - May 31, 7:45 am - 6:30 pm, $27R/$32NR

This annual event is held at the Lake Skinner Recreational Area, nestled among the rolling hills of vineyards. The festival features top-name entertainment, arts & crafts, cooking demonstrations and food and wine pairing featuring Temecula Valley and Southern California wineries.

The Music Man - June 7, 11 am - 7 pm, $24R/$29NR

A hit Broadway musical in 1957, The Music Man returns to the Glendale Centre Theatre. Enjoy Professor Harold Hill, a glib traveling salesman who descends upon the town of River City, Iowa in the weeks preceding the Fourth of July celebration of 1912.

Les Miserables – June 21, 11:15 am - 6:45 pm, $46R/$51NR

Les Miserables is now the world’s longest-running musical. Discover the production of a nation in the grip of revolution, where convict Jean Valjean is on the run. Hunted relentlessly by the policeman Javert for breaking his parole, he must leave his past behind and keep his vow to raise the young orphaned Cosette.

Sawdust Art Festival – July 12, 8:15 am - 7 pm, $13R/$18NR

Designed to both entertain and educate, the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach draws visitors worldwide. Visitors are invited to stroll along sawdust-covered paths through a handcrafted village of fine arts and superb craftsmanship. The festival features demonstration booths, outdoor cafes and live musical entertainment.

Bye Bye Birdie - July 26, 10 am - 6 pm, $40R/$46NR

Before Beatle-Mania, there was the first, the original Conrad Birdie! Now Conrad is joining the Army and America is going Birdie-crazy, when Cabrillo Music Theatre brings back one of the most popular musicals to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Bye Bye Birdie combines humor, dance, nostalgia and satire with songs such as ‘Put On A Happy Face,’ ‘The Telephone Hour,’ ‘Kids’ and ‘A Lot Of Livin’ To Do.’

Ventura County Fair - August 2, 9:45 am - 7:30 pm, $16R/$21NR

Enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of an old-fashion fair! Whether it’s the sweet smell of funnel cake or the memory of your first kiss at the top of a Ferris wheel, relive your experiences and create some new ones. The Ventura County Fair in Ventura features thousands of traditional exhibits and fabulous fair food.

Hollywood Bowl Fireworks Spectacular – August 16, 4:30 pm -12:15 am $31R/$36NR

Spend a delightful summer evening at a Southern California landmark. The Tchaikovsky Spectacular features the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra with an appearance by the USC Marching Band and spectacular fireworks. Take part in a long standing tradition by bringing a picnic to enjoy before the performance. Bon apetit, bravo and encore!

Registration is available at www.cityofpalmdale.org/playpalmdale. The city requires a minimum of 20 registrants for an excursion to take place. Individuals who wish to purchase more than eight tickets for any one trip must contact the excursion supervisor. Cancellations must be made two weeks in advance of excursion.

All excursion busses will meet at Palmdale Transportation Center, 39000 Clock Tower Plaza. The name of each person attending, address, phone number, emergency contact, and each minor child’s birth date are required. An adult must accompany anyone under age 18.
