Register now for New Jersey Bike/Walk Summit

Those looking for a healthy dose of information and education about improving local cycling routes and policies are sure to find it at this Saturday's New Jersey Bike/Walk Summit.

But you must act immediately. There are just three days left to register.

This event is a full day of what should be truly valuable advice, as it has been in the past for cycling and walking advocates. It opens at 8:45 a.m. at the Voorhees Transportation Center, 33 Livingston St., New Brunswick, with the city's mayor James Cahill welcoming delegates.

Jeff Miller, President and CEO of the Alliance for Biking and Walking in Washington, DC follows with a "Bicycling and Walking in the U.S.: 2012 Benchmarking Report," which is expected to provide an excellent overview of the national non-motorized landscape.

Perhaps even more useful will be the panel discussion and ad-hoc talks that follow for the remainder of the day dealing with building better local bike-friendly communities, raising money at cycling events, developing a bicycling nonprofit organization, making community streets safer, aiding mountain biking, advocating for cycling and walking and other topics.

A major panel discussion will examine the “3 foot law” designed to protect bike riders from motorists going fast enough to kill them. And the day wraps up at 3:30 p.m. with – you guessed it – separate biking and walking tours of New Brunswick itself, weather permitting.

Registration can be made via Paypal. The cost is $50 for adults, $25 for students.
