This is not your average golf tournament, and there is still time to enter.
It's the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship, and it's being held August 25 – 29, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
This is not some fly-by-night amateur golf tournament, this is the 31st edition of what most just call "The World Am."
While this serious golf with champions being crowned in different flights and one overall champion, it's a lot of fun for everyone involved.
The World Am is a net stroke play event that puts golfers in flights into five competitive divisions based on age, gender and handicap. It's the fair way to run this event with so many golfers. Following the four rounds of competition, the flight winners and ties advance to a Friday, "World Championship Playoff." This determines the overall champion.
Each year everyone in Myrtle Beach is on board for the tournament. Frankly, the tournament could not happen without the support of Myrtle Beach's golf courses, the business community and Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.
“The diversity of our golf course offerings here in Myrtle Beach are a primary reason for the event’s success,” Jeff Monday, the World Am’s tournament director, said. “We are fortunate to have some of the best golf courses not only in Myrtle Beach but all of America, and it helps us deliver a great golf experience for all 3,000+ players.”
They day doesn't end each day after the golf is complete.
For many, the fun begins nightly at the “World’s Largest 19th Hole” at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. This nightly party spans 120,000-square feet in the downtown convention center. Players have a great time with free food, open bar, a chance to try new golf equipment, live music, a massive golf expo and much more.
