Register for two of Iowa's great dance weekends

If you are a dancer, and have not done so already, I strongly urge you to check out at least one of these festivals. Iowa is only a few hours away, and talent comes from nationwide to expand our horizons and improve our dancing. Remember, the sooner you register, the better the price will be.

Heartland Swing Festival will be in Des Moines February 28-March 2, this year. Your Rockford Dance Examiner was pleased to be in attendance last year and shared her insights here. You can also go here for last year’s interview with the Executive Director of Heartland Swing Festival, Michael Brafford. This festival mostly focuses on Lindy Hop, with a few classes in other disciplines such as Charleston, Hip Hop, and Balboa. With six different track levels, there is a place for everyone! Housing has now closed, but you can still get the special $99 room price at the Renaissance Savery Hotel now through February 7th.

Hawkeye Swing Festival is coming to Iowa City April 4-6, 2014. This is also a primarily Lindy Hop festival, with some other dances like Charleston and Solo Jazz thrown in for good measure. They have six different levels of classes as well. Another big element of these festivals is the competitions. Hawkeye is proud to re-introduce it’s Original Choreography Competition this year!

Again, you are strongly urged to check out the websites of these two fine festivals, or any others in your area, to find the right one for you.
