On Saturday, March 29, 2014, the MDA of Utah will be holding its 2014 Muscle Walk fundraiser at the Utah Olympic Oval (5662 S. Cougar Lane, Kearns, Utah 84118). Festivities start at 9 a.m. and end at noon.
This year pledges have already exceeded the goal of $55,000 but there is always room for more pledges and walkers. Participants may register at the website until the morning of the event. People are also welcome to register at the door.
“The funds stay locally in Utah to help our 1500 families that are living with some form of Muscular Dystrophy,” says Executive Director Jamie Ingersoll.
Registration is free though participants that raise $100 or more will get an exclusive Muscle Walk T-shirt. The walk supports programs including an equipment loan program and the MDA Summer Camp.
The Muscle Walk features a Mascot Run, with mascots from various sports teams in the area, and a Heroes Run featuring members of H.E.R.O.I.C. Inc., a non-profit group costume group that works with a variety of charities in Utah. According to Ingersoll, the kids love interacting and taking photos with the members of H.E.R.O.I.C. Inc.
“A lot of charity costume groups focus on Christmas time,” says Kirk Ricks, PR Officer for H.E.R.O.I.C. Inc. “We kind of wanted to venture out from that.”
H.E.R.O.I.C. Inc. will also raise funds for MDA at its booth at Salt Lake Comic Con’s FanX event in April.
