TV Legend and host of Live with Regis and Kelly announced on Tuesday’s show that he is retiring from the show sometime during this year. Earlier in the morning Twitter was a buzz with rumors of Philbin’s departure but there was no confirmation until the show’s broadcast at 10am. The talk show host revealed:
“I don't want to alarm anybody, this will be my last year on the show.”
"It's been a long time," he continued. "It's been 28 years and it was the biggest thrill of my life to come back to New York, where I grew up as a kid watching TV in the early days, you know—never even dreaming that I would one day have the ability, or whatever it takes, to get in front of the camera and talk to it.
Philbin has had a long and winding career which has seen him in many different hosting chairs over the years. He has developed his signature style of hosting that engages the audience in discussions about his life and the day’s events. Philbin has also authored two autobiographies and is a singer and recording artists. Singing in the style of famous crooners such as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, he has released 4 albums to date. He has hosted game shows, such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and has numerous other television appearances under his belt.
While Regis may be retiring from his most famous gig, we doubt that he will stray very far from his TV roots. No announcements were made as to who would be replacing Regis on Live with Regis and Kelly.
Who do you think would make a great host to replace Regis Philbin and sit next to Kelly Ripa on Live?
