After 11 weeks of regular season action, the Region 7-AAAAAA champion is still to be determined. Heading into the final week of play Collins Hill, North Gwinnett and defending state champion Norcross are all 6-1 in region play, while Peachtree Ridge (5-2) and Mill Creek (4-3) are still in the battle for one of the four postseason spots.
Norcross (7-2, 6-1) will most likely finish 7-1 in region play after playing Meadowcreek (1-8, 1-6), which means that North Gwinnett (8-1, 6-1) would have to defeat Peachtree Ridge (7-2, 5-2) to knock the Blue Devils from the top spot in Region 7-AAAAAA. While both the Bulldogs and Devils would finish 7-1 in region with that scenario, North beat Norcross head-to-head earlier in the season which would give them the championship. A North loss to Peachtree Ridge means that Norcross would be the region champs, but the teams moving to the postseason will still have to be determined.
Norcross and North are going to the playoffs no matter what the results of Week 12 action are. Collins Hill, Peachtree Ridge and Mill Creek are vying for the final two spots, and which teams move on will be determined by the winners of the final regular season contests. Collins Hill travels to Mill Creek, and an Eagle victory would mean that Collins Hill and Peachtree Ridge would join Norcross and North as the four representatives from the region.
It is a great way to close out what has been an exciting regular season. Below is a look at the games and out projections for the week.
Week 12 Region 7-AAAAAA Games with our projections in parenthesis:
Collins Hill @ Mill Creek (Mill Creek has played well in losses to North (50-47), Peachtree Ridge (31-30) and Norcross (27-13), but faces an Eagles team that has continued to improve and seems to be hitting on all cylinders. Look for Collins Hill to win a tight game with a late score.)
Norcross @ Meadowcreek (Norcross will roll over Meadowcreek.)
Peachtree Ridge @ North Gwinnett (The outcome of this game will determine whether Norcross or North is crowned Region 7-AAAAAA champion. This is going to be a back and forth battle that will be decided by turnovers. Home field advantage will be a huge factor, look for North to win the game to capture the region title.)
Mountain View @ Duluth (These teams are both 2-7 overall and 2-5 in region. Duluth is the better team, but Mountain View has shown steady improvement over the season. The Wildcats will win this after pulling away in the second half.)
Habersham Central (0-10, 0-8) has completed their season.
