Region 2AAAA season coming down to the wire

Two weeks left in the Region 2AAAA baseball season and six teams are fighting for the final four spots to advance to the GHSA AAAA Tournament. While the top two teams will host, the third and fourth seeds will have to travel if they want to make it to the next round. Things get underway May 2nd and 3rd and continue until someone is crowned state champ.

6 teams. Four spots. Sort of like two women fighting over the same dress and it's a small dress. It can get messy at times and teams know that if someone gets hot, that team could run away with the dress.

Here's a look at the contenders, with their records through play Friday and the teams that they have to deal with.

Better luck next year: Westside-Macon and Baldwin.

So when the 2014 Region 2AAAA regular season comes to an end April 25th, four teams know that they will be going to the state baseball tournament, with two of those teams hosting the first round, while the other two teams will have to board buses and travel.

This year, Region 2AAAA, whose schools are based in Macon, Milledgeville, Forsyth, Perry and Kathleen, will square off against teams from Region 4AAAA and those schools are based just outside the Atlanta area in Griffin, Thomaston, Stockbridge, Locust Grove and Hampton.

The stakes now are high.

Come playoff time, the stakes will be even higher.
