What: A Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration weekend to include music and dance performances, films, crafts and a keynote address by Larry Young of WOLB 1010 AM.

Day One – Saturday, January 14, 2012
10:30 a.m. to Noon
Freedom’s Feast MLK Day Program = Celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday with fun-filled activities connected to this American Civil Rights leader. Families will participate in a Civil Rights scavenger hunt, hear a story about children in the movement, and create a service medallion to honor Dr. King. Families will take home resource materials about this holiday celebration. FYI: Space is said to be limited. To register, please contact 443-263-1875. Free program.

SATURDAY’S CHILD = “Our Friend, Martin: A Magical Adventure” (60 minutes, Ages 6 to 10)Enjoy an animated film about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and write a letter to Dr. King that will be displayed at the museum during the King Holiday weekend. FYI: Museum admission required.

Musical Presentation: Bending the Arc -- 2:30pm
Bending the Arc by Dr. Noah Getz celebrates an ongoing movement of individual and collective civil rights activism, and the rich rhetorical and musical traditions associated with it. The work was written to mark the dedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial in Washington, DC in August 2011. Jazz and classical saxophonist, Dr. Noah Getz from American University in DC will perform the solo saxophone piece composed by Judah E. Adashi a local composer and faculty at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
