Regal Cinemas moviegoers can enjoy more than a good flick these days. Tourists and locals have an easy chance to 'Back Pat'. From now until February 20, 2012, Regal Entertainment will donate $1 to the Pat Summit Foundation Fund. Monies generated by the Regal Entertainment effort will further the advancement of Alzheimer’s research.
The Knoxville area is flooded with Lady Vols basketball fans each year. Many of these fans travel from across the United States (and sometimes from other countries) to watch Pat Summit and her team in action. When the coach announced that she suffers from early onset Alzheimer's disease, the blow reverberated across the country. The foundation is named in her honor.
When word got out about a negative article about the coach, fans fought back. A grassroots 'We Back Pat' campaign was initiated in Knoxville. Almost overnight the town was awash in a sea of orange. The slogan 'We Back Pat' appeared on marquees across the city. It didn't take long for the effort to spread across the country.
Now, moviegoers at Regal Entertainment have another opportunity to support the superstar basketball coach. The opportunity to support the Pat Summit Foundation by purchasing popcorn applies to all Regal Cinemas locations in Knoxville.
Some of the goals of the Pat Summit Foundation are:
Support services to patients and their caregivers
Education and awareness of Alzheimer's
Research for the prevention and cure of the disease.
