Music, especially music of the 6os, has always been the soundtrack to our lives. Starting in the 50s with what was called race music, a yet to be known genius from California named Brian Wilson, to a group that would not only change the face of music, but an entire political scene and social enviorment from across the pond named The Beatles, and their raunchy counter-parts, The Rolling Stones. Yes sir and mam, they were the soundtrack of our lives. And a half of a century later they are still rocking and we are still rolling.
Then, however, there were groups who had the doors opened for them by the Beatles and Stones, and the Troggs, neither a huge monster of a group nor a one hit wonder, would fill the void while we waited for the next neon rainbow colored album from the handful of genius.'
In addition to 3 hit songs, the Troggs made us feel good. To this day, when 'Wild Thing' comes on the radio, a group of friends all sing the part, ' Wild ...Thing, I think you moooooooooooooove me,' and then we continue on to the chorus at the top of our lungs singing, ' WILD THING!' It was a number one song in July of 1966, and almost 46 years later we still turn the song up at ballgames, driving down the rode with the radio on, and with the top down on a sunny day.
The same year, just a few months later, they hit the charts again with, 'A Girl Like You.' But it's not the title we sang, we clear our lungs and at the top of them sang 'BA-BA-BA-BA -BA-BA BA-BA-BA-BA. I know. Silly. But fun. It started off, 'I want to spend my life with a girl like you,' then the "BA-BAs." It would be almost two years later before their next hit,'Love Is All Around.' And yet the good can get covered 100 different ways. Although this song, even though this song is now 46 years old, it is reserected and the star for an old rock star in this movie,' Christmas is All Around,' from the new holiday special, 'Love Actually' is the song we remember from the film. But that is when a classic is a classic;46 years and we all remember it.
And of course, we remember Reg Taylor, who sang the original, and get to look down and listen to Billy Nye sing this song endlessly due to the classic film, 'Love Actually.'
Only the good die young, but the singer and the song never die. R.I.P. Reg....Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
