Legendary pugilist Floyd Mayweather said during Saturday’s press conference that he “don’t duck or dodge nobody.”
Numerous media outlets reported that Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) was going to meet Amir Khan on May 3.
However, Mayweather ultimately decided to bypass Khan (28-3, 19 KOs) and instead face Marcos Maidana this spring at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.
“Floyd Mayweather is not scared of no opponent. I don’t duck or dodge nobody, but I earned my stripes,” said Mayweather, 36, the Ring “Fighter of the Year” in 1998 and 2007. “People say ‘why did I choose Maidana over Khan?’ Look at his last four fights and look at Khan’s last four fights. I had to go with the best choice and [Maidana] has made a big impact on boxing in his last fight,”
The 30-year-old Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs) decisively bested Adrien Broner in December to earn the WBA welterweight title.
According to the Associated Press, Maidana officially trumped the 24-year-old Broner (27-1, 22 KOs) by scores of 115-110, 116-109 and 117-109.
A powerful and beloved Argentinean, Maidana outworked Broner and floored the loudmouth in the second and eighth rounds.
Maidana, who is also a past junior welterweight champion, was far more active than Broner and landed bruising punches throughout the 36-minute slugfest.
“You know who I said I wanted on the undercard [Adrien Broner vs. Amir Khan]. You wanna fight me? Earn it,” said Mayweather, who plans to perform on three more occasions before retiring. “You wanna fight me? You gotta earn it. Some may not earn it. I may just pick them because I want to.”
In their initial bout in June 2012, Bradley (31-0-0-1, 12 KOs) unwittingly stole Pacquiao’s crown when criminally incompetent judges handed him a split decision.
“Desert Storm” is quick, aggressive and fearless.
Unfortunately for Bradley, despite being an extremely formidable prizefighter, he possesses feathery fists and is incapable of hurting Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs).
Plus, considering the revenge factor, Pacquiao will be supremely prepared for his sequel with Bradley.
Expect Pacquiao to brawl with Bradley and emerge triumphant via the cards this spring.
Subsequently, Floyd Mayweather shouldn’t “duck or dodge nobody” and finally battle Manny Pacquiao in the autumn.
