While out for my morning walk with Sasha today, I came across a couple with two yellow labs. The couple was out for their morning walk also and it was very apparent the man had control of the situation. I never had that sense from the woman, even though she had a leash in her hand with a 70 to 80 pound dog at the end of it.
This reminded me that as the weather is warming, more and more we will see people out walking their FFBFs. It is easy to get out of the habit of expectations while walking or pets; or for that matter any time they are confronting another person. We understand that during the cold weather our FFBF may not go for as many walks rather just go out and come back in.
If this is your case, please take the time to do a refresher obedience course. If we’re out walking that pet, we must care a lot about the pet and us. The pet is safer when under control and so are we, not to mention the general public, public perception is if the pet is on a leash and being walked regularly we have the situation in hand. www.petco.com www.petsmart.com And don’t thing that because the FFBF is pint size it does not need this training. Obedience training makes a better pet and a happier pet. And isn’t that what we all want, happy healthy FFBF. And if we walk our cat think about it; isn’t it best to have a safe happy cat. Obedience refresher courses are usually 4 to 5 weeks, what a small time investment for a fun filled summer.
