Reflections: Intentions vs Resolutions

See also

As the year comes to a close we tend to look back rather than immediately look forward to the New Year. What we assess usually is whether or not we reached our goals, kept our promises, and achieved what we set out to at the beginning of the year. This ritual is as old as our earliest memories. So what do you think this year we are exiting will have shown us? What unfinished task will we be carrying with us into 2014?

The main reason we make New Year's resolutions is to join with the crowd. We want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. The idea is that if enough people state their desires on New Years Eve with total support and understanding from all their friends, some of these wishes will come true. Maybe this year! So what are you waiting for? Take a risk, state your desires, your dreams, your must haves and set the intention to achieve them all.

Of course this is not about the mysterious Secret that said we could have anything we desired with the belief it was to be so. If it were that easy....you fill in the blanks. In order to accomplish anything one must plan, take action and implement in order to achieve one's goals.

Start by being totally candid with yourself-look at where you have been and where you want to go. Ask yourself a series of questions that answer the what, how, when, and why. Most importantly is the why-if you can identify a strong why, you can create the necessary momentum to achieve the goal. So back to the questions, were you specific in your intentions? Did you write them down, speak them out loud? Did you have an accountability partner to help you stay the course? If you can honestly say yes to the preceding questions, you probably reached your goals.

A life lived with dreams is a life fully expressed. Enter into the Eve of 2013/2014 with the hopes, dreams, desires, and knowledge that you can create your very existence with the exuberance of a young child expressing their special magic without bounds. Open to the Universe and all it has to offer. Be a receiver of abundance. Dare to dream BIG with the full expectation of fulfillment.

Instead of resolutions, set intentions. Make a commitment to yourself to reach the stars of your imagination. Never settle for almost, not quite, or didn't make it fully. Don't stop until you lasso the moon. Believe you can and watch the magic appear. Walk in the shoes of overflowing possibilities and watch the energy reverberate around your world.

Reflect on the accomplishments of the awe inspiring moments you created in 2013 and before. Build on the premise that all is possible with heart, courage, tenacity, and preparation. Listen only to the voice inside that speaks to your greatness. Along the path many messages will appear that validate your awesomeness hear them allowing them to wash over the seeds of doubt planted by naysayers.

2014 is but a reflection on the ripples of all that has gone before. Enter this New Year with the belief of already achieving your desires. No stopping the force that surfaces in absolute certainty. Capture all that awaits you in the coming year.
