Redwood City offers classical musical variety throughout the 2014 summer free concerts in downtown.
All the concerts will be performed at the Courthouse Square, Courthouse Square 2200 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063.
The season begins at 6 p.m., Saturday June 21 with the Redwood Symphony, under the direction of founder and Music Director, Eric Kujawsky, performs a one-hour program of favorites from the concert and movie worlds, including music from Menkin's, Beauty and Beast; a Henry Mancini Medley; Rossini's Barber of Seville Overture; the Can-Can and a "Pops" Hoedown.
Travis Brass is the brass group of the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West performing 6 p.m., Saturday, July 12. From a standard march or traditional brass composition to jazz, ragtime and the popular music of today, this group's diverse repertoire covers a myriad of styles to exhilarate audiences. Throughout the West Coast, Travis Brass focuses on educational outreach through hands-on clinics, master classes and interactive concerts for aspiring musicians of all ages. Travis Brass is featured on the recording "Wood 'n Brass.” The brass group members are active duty professional musicians working in support of Air Mobility Command and the surrounding communities.
The voices of the professional, regional Opera San José company will be heard on 6 p.m., Sunday, July 13. Maintaining a resident company of principal artists, Opera San José specializes in showcasing the young professional singers in the nation. Principal artists from the Opera San José resident company will present a concert on Courthouse Square highlighting some of the greatest arias and ensembles in opera repertoire from Mozart to Puccini, and a preview of the company's 2014-15 season, which includes Verdi's, Rigoletto, Rossini's The Italian Girl in Algiers, Weiser's Where Angels Fear to Tread, and Mozart's The Magic Flute.
Artists including Liliane Cromer, Delmar McComb, Christopher Wells, Jennifer Der Torossian, Tamami Honma, Steve Zimmerman, Kristin Genis-Lund, and Pedro Ledesma will sing as the Bay Shore Lyric Opera performs 3 p.m., Sunday September 14. Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, Gounod, Mozart, and Mascagni are some of the composers included in the program.
