After Monday night’s victory over the New York Mets, the Cincinnati Reds have officially clinched a playoff spot. Shin-Soo Choo’s walk-off single in the 10th inning placed the Reds back in the playoffs for the third time in four years. In their past two trips to the postseason, the Reds exited quickly in the first round to the Phillies in 2010 and the Giants in 2012.
With the Cardinals eliminating the Washington Nationals, it opened the door for the Reds to make it to another postseason.
The Reds, Pirates and Cardinals will battle it out for the playoff pecking order in the next few days.
In the win, Reds ace Johnny Cueto gave up one earned run in seven innings. Reds reliever Manny Para picked up the win.
After an early exit in last season’s playoffs, the Reds will try to make it to the World Series. With strong pitching, the Reds have an excellent chance of winning it all.
The Reds have won five of their last six games and have picked the best time to get hot.
Reds star Chin Soo Choo commented on the game:
"We have five games left and every game is very important for us. I want to help the team."
