The Cincinnati Reds continue their very busy January by announcing one trade, a free agent signing and possibly another.
The week started when Cincinnati re-signed reliever Nick Masset to avoid arbitration. That signing leaves only reliever Jose Arredondo as the only arbitration eligible player.
Next was the signing of utility man Willie Harris, who had played in 126 games with the Mets last season where he hit .246 with 23 RBI. This will be Harris' seventh organization if he makes the Reds roster this season.
Then the Reds swaped lefty Jeremy Horst for Phillies infielder Wilson Valdez. Last season Horst appeared in 12 games with a 2.93 ERA in 15.1innings. Valdez filled in for Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins while in Philadelphia and appeared in 210 games the last two seasons.
Cincinnati is also said to have a deal with lefty starter Jeff Francis. Francis played for the Royals last season where he had one of his worst year's when he went 6-16 with a 4.82 ERA. In 2007 he had 17 wins, but in the last three years he has just 16 in 74 starts.
