Monica Pauline Ferreri of Redlands, Calif. was arrested and charged with animal cruelty for setting a cat's tail on fire and posting the video on Facebook reported Saturday's CBSlocal.com.
A tip from someone in Boston helped authorities trace the origin of the video back to Ferreri where she was arrested at her workplace at the 1800 block of Orange Tree Lane. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Office confirmed the injury to the cat at the premises as consistent with the Facebook postings.
The video was posted on Facebook and immediately drew criticism, but not before three people "liked" it. Calling it "Lighting Monica's Cat on Fire" a poster asked Ferreri why she did such a heinous act. Ferreri responded:
“The cat isn’t set on fire, it is a bit of her fur. Chill.”
The poster then replied:
“Oh, so you’re only setting part of the cat on fire. That’s totally fine. So if someone were to set your hair on fire and laugh about it, it would only be your hair, so it would be chill. It’s unfortunate people like you can obtain animals. Glad you got a good laugh in.”
The video was removed after only 12 minutes, and if anyone has a copy, the authorities would like to have it for further evidence. Please call (909) 557-6583.
The cat, who was reported to be 15-years-old, has been vet checked and is expected to make a full recovery. He was released to his owner; an acquaintance of Ferreri.
Ferreri faces charges of animal cruelty and is reported to have posted bail.
