The 4th Annual Redland Blues & Barbecue Festival will be held on the weekend of April 5-6, 2014 on the lush grounds of the Fruit & Spice Park. This event is a favorite of locals and visitors alike because of the fantastic music and absolutely mouthwatering, sizzling good barbecue.

Most attendees will bring a blanket or camp chairs and find their spot in the grass along the curving walkway or right in the middle of the sprawling field. This is one of those festivals where you just plant yourself, get comfortable, kick your feet up and enjoy your surroundings.

Blues and country music fans will be excited by this lineup of bands scheduled to perform:

  • Iko Iko
  • PitBull Blues
  • Jay Blues
  • Big City
  • Shadow Creek

In addition to the awesome tunes, there will be plenty of activities to keep the little tikes busy including pony rides and a special interactive area from Homestead Speedway. You won’t have to worry about them being bored as they can explore the park’s 37+ acres of tropical landscape that include a bamboo garden with 70 different varieties (adults love exploring the grounds, too).

Be sure to come hungry because there will be plenty of vendors selling their finger-licking barbeque:

  • Big Pig BBQ
  • Huckleberry Hillbilly
  • M&M BBQ
  • Smok’n Hot Ladies BBQ
  • Smoke n’ Spice BBQ

You may recognize several of those names as they make the rounds in South Florida at the different festivals and cook-offs. They are award-winning, champion grillers and smokers, so you’re in for an unbelievable treat, especially if you’re a carnivore: ribs, chicken, brisket, pork…and juicy corn on the cob cooked over an open fire. It doesn’t get much better than that. Landlubbers, have no fear. The Mango Café onsite offers a nice menu of salads and wraps, and they use herbs grown right out their door for that over-the-top fresh taste. The mango salsa is a definite winner.

Festival hours will be 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday, April 5th, and on Sunday, April 6th, from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is $8. Kids are free.

The Fruit & Spice Park is a Miami-Dade County Park located at 24801 S.W. 187 Avenue in Homestead, Florida. If you’re heading south on Krome Avenue, make a right on S.W. 248th Street; the park will be straight down on your left. Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen.
