This is the first year this parish has done this, but they are following the example of many other parishes across the country. It cost about $3,500 to do it, and it basically came about because the Peter & Paul Men's Club and the Women of Purpose ministries attended one of Matthew Kelly's talks at Holy Family Catholic Church. The attendees read his book and thought it would be a good idea to give this as a gift from the parish to the parishioners. The funding came about as those ministries and others (e.g., Filipino-American club) chipped in together from their annual budgets.
It was a great sign of faith that these ministries gave up $500 or $1000 of their own budgets - money that was already intended for other projects (like the Men's Club's new deep fryer for the Lenten Friday Fish Frys). It speaks a lot to the impact of that book on the attendees and ministry members.
Now that parishioners and visitors to the Christmas Mass have started reading the book, the parish is now organizing "Rediscover Catholicism" Small Group Workshops. The Workshops are held over a 6-week period, starting the week of January 26 and ending on March 8. There are 13 different sessions available and registration may be done one of three ways:
- register online through the parish website (www.stspp.net)
- fill-out a registration form at one of the Workshop Registration tables available after all Masses the weekends of January 11/12 and 18/19
- or just drop off your filled-out registration form that you received in the book at the parish office or in the collection basket.
