Redesigned 2014 Scion TC coupe to debut at 2013 New York Auto Show

Toyota announced today (March 21, 2013) that they’re pulling the wraps off its newly redesigned 2014 Scion TC Coupe. They also released a teaser image of the coupe from overhead. Although much can’t be gleaned from the shot, we can ascertain that the Scion TC will retain its overall shape from this current generation.

Overall sales of the Scion TC have been down for the first two months of 2013 as its faced stiff competition from the likes of the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte Coupe which all offer more upscale interiors and slightly better mileage figures. Sales of the Scion TC in 2006 were at its peak with 74,415 units sold. Last year Scion pushed out a total of 22,666 units, still a sizeable chunk for this youth oriented arm of Toyota.

Although details have been sparse about the upcoming TC, Scion will probably upgrade the interior to bring it up to par with its competitors, add a bit of power in the form of a reworked ECU and exhaust/header upgrades and a bump in efficiency to bring mileage numbers to where the competition sits.

Expect for Toyota to keep the same 2.5 inline four in its current guise pumping out a competent 180 HP and 173 lbs-ft of torque which can be coupled to a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic transmission.

Also expect the starting price to stay just under $19,000

The 2013 New York Auto Show is set to run between March 29, 2013 and April 7,2013.
