Redemption dance on the finale of Dancing with the Stars

This week, contestants and their dance partners danced their redemption dance on the first night of the finale of Dancing with the Stars. The redemption dance is a dance in which they received their lowest scores from the judges, and in which they are given an opportunity to redeem themselves with a new song and new choreography.

Foxtrot

For actor Kyle Massey and dance partner Lacey Schwimmer, that dance was the Foxtrot, which they performed during TV theme week to the Charlie’s Angels theme song. It was a Foxtrot that was infused with disco movements, and for which they were criticized for not including enough Foxtrot.

In his redemption dance, Kyle improved upon his Foxtrot, which garnered much praise from judges, who described it as marvelous with much improved technique.

Jive

Teen activist Bristol Palin and dance partner Mark Ballas performed the Jive for their redemption dance. They also performed the Jive during TV theme week to The Monkees theme song. While Bristol was commended for projecting more of her personality in this dance than in prior dances, she received some criticism for dancing with less technique.

In her redemption dance, Bristol danced a Jive that was full of fun and high energy. The judges said that she showed much improvement in her technique, and danced with better footwork.

Paso doble

Actress Jennifer Grey and dance partner Derek Hough performed the Paso doble for their redemption dance.  They danced the Paso doble during Rock ‘n’ Roll week, and Jennifer was criticized for being disjointed and out of control.

In her redemption dance, Jennifer greatly improved upon her Paso doble, which the judges described as fantastic. Judge Bruno Tonioli compared Jennifer to a flamenco dancer.  Jennifer and Derek received a perfect score of 30 for their Foxtrot.
