Liam Reddy impressed in goal for the Central Coast as they managed an important 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix at North Sydney Oval on Thursday night.
It was the first A-League match played at the famous cricket ground and both sides put on a show in the first match of the busy festive season.
It was a tight start to the match before the Mariners eventually came out and started to control the match after the 20th minute and it was this passage that lead to the goal.
The goal came in the 27th minute as Mile Sterjovski's cross was poorly dealt with, allowing Storm Roux to pounce and smash the ball home for his first professional goal.
That lead to a period of dominance for the Central Coast with Marcos Flores and Daniel McBreen linking up well to create a good opportunity.
Wellington started to really attack in the final stages of the half but they were denied by some solid goalkeeping from Reddy, keeping it 1-0 at the break.
The second half really was a battle of the goalkeepers with both Reddy and Glen Moss both impressing to keep the second half scoreless.
Shortly after the break it looked like Wellington would hit the lead as a penalty allowed Stein Husygems to step up and take a shot but was denied as Liam Reddy dove down to the left and saved to keep the Mariners in front..
It was Reddy who had the edge of the two keepers with impressive saves to deny Louis Fenton and Jason Hicks despite their good work.
