Aaron Swartz, one of the men behind the popular Reddit has been found dead in his home according to law enforcement (Page Six, Jan 12). He was found unconscious but the exact cause of death has not been determined. Those close to the talented programmer say he has long suffered from depression. Elliot R. Peters, Swartz’s lawyer confirmed the sad news through email: "The tragic and heartbreaking information you received is, regrettably, true,"
Along with Reddit, the 26 year old Swartz also is also credited with creating an early version of RSS and was an also an activist. He worked with Avaaz Foundation, a nonprofit “global web movement to bring people-powered politics to decision-making everywhere.”
In July 2011, Swartz was indicted for using the MIT network to download millions of documents from JSTOR with the intent to distribute them.
Friend Cory Doctorow says: “We have lost someone today who had more work to do — and who made the world a better place.”
