Redbridge & Woodchuck - Two main gluten free U.S. beers

With Mardi Gras right around the corner, Celiacs might be interested to know who is serving gluten free beer. It’s a lot easier to find gluten free hard liquor then to drink beer. After researching, it appears that Redbridge beer and Woodchuck beer are still the two most common gluten free beers served in the United States of America including Lafayette, Louisiana. Woodchuck is made in Vermont and Redbridge is made in Missouri, an Anheuser-Busch product. There are 35 places which sell gluten free Woodchuck beer. However, it doesn’t indicate which bars/pubs/restaurants serve the beer. Click on this link for the list of 35 places which sell gluten free Woodchuck. The beers are cider beers made out of apples. They are Hornsby Amber (voted the favorite), Granny Smith (tastes like a wine cooler), Pear, Raspberry, 802 Dark and Dry and several seasonal varieties such as Winter, Fall, Spring, Summer, and Pumpkin.

As indicated in this review of Bonefish Grill, even the Bonefish Grill which has a gluten free menu does not serve a gluten free beer. Of course, they do serve many gluten free liquors, liquers and wine. Sometimes, you just want a beer though. The same goes with Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Texas Roadhouse. No gluten free beer to be had no where no how.

After rechecking the Redbridge beer site, it appears Bonefish Grill IS now serving gluten free beer. Wonderful, wonderful! Lafayette Celiacs might want to know this important fact. Surprisingly, the Maurice City Bar also serves the Redbridge beer. Know that, only ONE bar is listed from Lafayette, Louisiana. Perhaps this article will get a few more bars to buy the Redbridge or Woodchuck beers. Kudos to the two listed below which sell Redbridge beer.

Lastly, bars, bartenders and restaurants might want to know that Celiacs CANNOT hold their liquor if there is gluten in it. Meaning, two beers and they appear drunk. If a bartender runs across a patron that appears to not be able to drink without appearing sloshed on just a few beers or appear to undergo a personality change, they might want to suggest to their patron a gluten free beer. Perhaps, they are experiencing a reaction to gluten which is in every beer except Woodchuck and Redbridge. Gluten affects the brain, intestines and skin first and could explain the above phenomena of being unable to "hold their liquor." Many Celiacs go years and years without a diagnosis. Perhaps their bartender can be the first to give them a clue.
