The Playlist channel is "a specially-curated, rotating collection of Redbox Instant by Verizon movies that highlights the most exciting titles from the subscription movie library," according to a press release received from Redbox. "Built specifically with the PlayStation gamer in mind and featured on the main dashboard, The Playlist channel will be updated frequently and serve as a great destination for fast, simple and fun movie discovery."
Aside from the Playlist channel, Redbox boasts of more than 7,000 digital movies that can be streamed instantly plus the ability to rent or purchase new release movies on-demand. It also allows users reserve movies or games from nearby Redbox kiosks.
"We're pleased to partner with Sony to bring Redbox Instant by Verizon to the popular PlayStation3 system and shine a spotlight on movies," said Shawn Strickland, CEO of Redbox Instant by Verizon.
"With the newest movies for the best value available through our subscription service, combined with the added ability to purchase and rent new releases, as well as the addition of our curated Playlist, we offer something for everyone."
The service costs $8 a month and includes the ability to stream videos to the PS3 plus rent four DVD rental nights from Redbox kiosks. Blu-ray rental cost an additional dollar. Also, the first month is free.
