RedBlacks sign Burris

According to the Canadian Press, the Ottawa RedBlacks have signed former Calgary Stampeder quarterback Henry Burris to a three year deal on Tuesday.

The announcement was a surprise because the RedBlacks already selected quarterback Kevin Glenn from the Calgary Stampeders and Thomas Demarco from the British Columbia Lions in the offseason expansion draft.

Burris, who led the Canadian Football League in passing yards last season with 4925 while with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, selected the RedBlacks over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who also offered him a long term deal.

This will be fourth CFL franchise for Burris, who has also played with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Burris was not the only former Calgary professional sports athlete who made headlines on Tuesday. Former Calgary Flame Jarome Iginla recorded his 600th career assist in a 3-1 Boston win over Vancouver in NHL action tonight. Iginla is the all-time leader for the Flames in goals and points.
