Red Wings' veteran sniper Pavel Datsyuk notched a goal and an assist, while former Calgary Flame Todd Bertuzzi and Niklas Kronwall each recorded a pair of helpers as Detroit improved to 8-4-2 on the season. The Flames meanwhile dropped to under .500 at 5-6-2.
With the game tied at two, the Red Wings scored two goals in the third period past Flames' goaltender Joey MacDonald from awkward angles. The first came from Tomas Tatar and the second from Justin Abdelkader, who each scored their second goals of the season.
The Flames got goals from Chris Butler, Sean Monahan and Curtis Glencross, but it was too little, too late. Jiri Hudler meanwhile had a multi-point game for Calgary with two assists. Hudler now has 15 points in 13 games.
Calgary next plays in Chicago on Sunday night.
