Red Sox announcer Jerry Remy broke his silence today about his 34-year-old son's arrest for the murder his girlfriend and the mother of Jerry Remy's 4-year-old granddaughter, according to The Boston Herald on Aug. 18. Remy took to his Twitter page to share with his fans his thoughts on this family tragedy today.
The voice of the Red Sox is on hiatus from work for a while as his son is arrested for stabbing his girlfriend to death. Jared Remy was first arrested for assaulting his girlfriend on Tuesday. He was arraigned in Waltham District Court on Wednesday for slamming his girlfriend's head into a mirror. He was released without bail and was given nothing more than an order not to harm his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, who was 27.
The following night police were called to the house in Waltham that Jared Remy shared with Jennifer Martel and their 4-year-old daughter and they were met by Remy covered in blood. Then they saw Martel laying slashed to death on the floor of their patio, surrounded by a pink tricycle and toys. Jared Remy was arraigned in court on murder charges Friday and he pled not guilty.
Martel's mother, Patty Martel is now critical of the court system releasing Remy the day before without so much as a dollar of bail. “If they had kept him, maybe my daughter would be alive today,” said Patty Martel, according to The Boston Globe today.
Jerry Remy broke his silence today about his son and the murder of his son's girlfriend, who was also the mother of his granddaughter. Remy wrote on Twitter:
“Son or not, I am at a loss for words articulating my disgust and remorse over this senseless and tragic act,” He continued with , “We are heartbroken.”
Jerry Remy, who has not spoken to his son since this arrest also said that his prayers go out to the Martel family.
