Red Sox reporter Heidi Watney is leaving NESN

The Boston Red Sox players and front office will be very different when spring training starts up in March. Now we are learning that the cast delivering them into our home will be different as well. Heidi Watney will not be apart of the NESN’s Red Sox coverage in 2012.

For the past four seasons, Watney reported live in-game updates from the field, complementing NESN’s coverage duo of Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy. She also worked on the networks pre-game and post-game show with Tom Caron and other studio analysts.

Watney is a University of San Diego graduated and was the 2002 Miss California runner up. The 30-year-old began her broadcast career in Fresno with local radio stations, the ESPN radio affiliate and the local FOX television station.

Watney took over as host of The Ultimate Red Sox show in June of 2008 and soon after also became the host of the Red Sox Report. Since her early days with NESN, Watney has been one of their biggest stars. She has been in numerous commercials, supported charities and even had a bobble head day in Lowell. Unfortunately with her fame, she was subject to rumors involving her personal life.

Reports of her departure surfaced last year before a one-year option was picked up on her contract. This time there will be no extension. It is not known if the separation is one sided or mutual. Her reason for leaving NESN is unknown. She will most likely return to her home in California. It has been reported that she will join Time Warner in Los Angeles to cover the Lakers.
