The Red Sox interviewed their third candidate to fill the open manager's position yesterday, bringing in Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar, Jr.
Alomar is the first candidate who has no managerial experience but his 20 years in the majors and his success as a catcher were enough for the Red Sox to seriously consider him to fill Terry Francona's shoes.
Upon leaving Boston, Alomar heads to Chicago where he'll be interviewed by Theo Epstein on Friday for the manager's opening left when Epstein fired Mike Quade. The Red Sox, meanwhile, still have former Pawtucket Red Sox manager (and current Toronto Blue Jays first base coach) Torey Lovullo and Detroit Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont on tap for interviews on Friday and Saturday respectively.
