This winter has been brutal up here in the northeast, but things will at least begin to look up as the Boston red Sox will finally start to play spring training games on Thursday. The Red Sox will play a pair of split squad games against the Northeastern Huskies and the Boston College Eagles.

The Huskies will have to face the big boys as most of the regulars. Brandon Workman, who is battling for the fifth spot in the rotation, will get the start against the Huskies. Rubby de la Rosa, who came over in 2012 in the Adrian Gonzalez deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, will get the call against the Eagles.

This will be the fans first chance to see what kind of shape newcomer Grady Sizemore is in. If he can stay healthy he might be the answer to the question of who will lead off for the defending World Series champions.
