One Boston Red Sox fan quit his job in order to attend Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday night (Oct. 23). According to a report from late Wednesday, Gino Marcello ended up quitting his job as a Rochester furniture salesman when his boss wouldn't give him the time off. New York may seem like an odd place for a dedicated Red Sox fan to call home, but that is exactly the case with this particular one.
Marcello was at Fenway Park with a huge sign that stated, "I quit my job 4 this." A picture of the sign being held up has been crisscrossing Twitter, showing just how much he wanted to be involved in watching the 2013 World Series. He talked about why he left his job, stating that talking to his boss didn't go well. "He said I couldn't take off this week because I didn't get him enough notice. I told him I wasn't coming in. And here I am."
As for the game itself, the Red Sox fan who quit his job to watch it had to be pretty happy with the outcome. With three runs in the first inning and two more in the second inning, Boston jumped out to a lead that they would hold through all of Game 1. The final score was 8-1 in favor of Boston over the St. Louis Cardinals with Game 2 set to take place on Thursday evening (Oct. 24) at Fenway Park as well. There is no word on whether Gino Marcello was able to get tickets for that one.
