Foot Locker announced the release date for the Kanye West designed Nike“Red October” Air Yeezy 2. According to Foot Locker’s official Twitter account Friday (Dec. 20), the highly anticipated sneakers will be released before the end of the year.
Foot Locker will begin accepting orders on its official website on the scheduled release date of Dec 27. Availability of the “Red October” Air Yeezy 2 will be limited to online purchases only. The sporting goods retailer did not specify if the sneakers will be available in stores after the initial release. “UPDATE: The Red Nike Air Yeezy 2 will be available ONLINE ONLY on December 27th at 8 a.m. EST,” @footlocker said in a Twitter post Friday.
There’s a good chance that the “Red October” Air Yeezy 2 will eventually make it to Foot Locker retail stores sometime in early 2014 as Nike and West originally intended. When that does happen, sneaker enthusiasts and Kanye West fans will surely wait in long lines to get their hands on a pair.
“Red October” is the third colorway of the Air Yeezy 2 sneaker series and also the last collaborative release from Nike and West. During an interview with New York City's Hot 97 radio station in November, West announced his decision to end his relationship with Nike to ink a deal with Adidas.
Up until now, an official release date for the Air Yeezy 2 was not announced, even West wasn't privy to that information. “I asked them when the Yeezy Red Octobers are coming out, I asked them. Me, Kanye West asked Nike ‘when’s it coming out?’, they said ‘we’re not sure yet’,” West told Hot 97.
Foot Locker did not indicate if the "Red October" Air Yeezy 2 will have the same $245 price tag as the "Black-Solar Red & Wolf Grey" and "Pure Platinum" colorways, launched in June 2012.
