One of Seattle's landmark hotels has a new name and a new look. The Red Lion Hotel Fifth Avenue, located between Pike and Union streets, is now Motif Seattle. The 18-year-old hotel was recently purchased by Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers from LA-based Lowe Enterprises. Motif Seattle will continue to be run by Destination Hotels & Resorts, which managed the Red Lion. Destination Hotels & Resorts is a collection of four dozen hotels and resorts in the US, including Kirkland's Woodmark Hotel and Suncadia in Cle Elum.
Seattle-based architecture firm Ankrom Moisan headed up the design and architecture of the renovation, using locally sourced wood paneling, native artwork and creating digitally interactive spaces. According to Motif Seattle GM Shannon Sheron, Motif was inspired by Seattle's burgeoning fashion, music and arts scenes. "Motif Seattle draws upon the area's rich history, innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and avant-garde taste in the arts to create a guest experience woven from the fabric of our unique city" said Sheron.
Highlights include a new front entrance on Fifth Avenue, colorful grand lobby and the renovation of all 319 guest rooms and 10 suites. Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails, which made its debut last year, features the largest outdoor patio in downtown Seattle. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and there's a mid-day happy hour menu from 11AM to 2 PM, Monday-Friday.
