Christian comedian/rapper Red Dott has had an interesting journey. He started his career by taking the traditonal route that most aspiring artists do. He even made it to the famed Apollo Theatre, 106 & Park and other high profile gigs. But, then he had an encounter with God. Now, Red Dott is using his talents for the Lord. On Friday, April 18 Red Dott came full circle when he held his live comedy recording at Fresh Start Church in Glen Burnie, Md.
Red Dott displayed his comedic timing during the show that was filled with jokes about growing up in church, praise dancing, his start in the business and life in general. It was also laced with lots of physical humor as the comedian fell out of his chair, threw himself on the floor a few times, all to the delight of the audience.
The show was well-attended and Dott's elementary school teacher even came out to support him, as well as other friends. The recording is being pitched to Hollywood and if all goes well more people will get to enjoy Red Dott's brand of comedy. He recalled how his pastor Bishop Craig Coates spoke into his life several years ago. It was an emotional moment and Bishop Coates prayed over Red Dott at the conclusion of the night.
Opening acts for the show included Grandma G, Two Dollar Change and gospel artist Donald Simms and One Voice provided musical inspiration.
Although Friday night was dedicated to comedy, this week Red Dott released the single, "Loyalty" from his upcoming album, "Glory Road." Listen here. The single is available as a free download and the mix tape is due May 2014.
