Red Carpet To Reality

Express, Los Cerritos Center.

The red carpet’s been rolled up for yet another year, and you can almost hear the entire city take a deep breath and relax.  As the celebrity pomp and circumstance make an exit from stage right – what’s left is the “OMG, did you see what she was wearing” and the “how can I get that look”.   Just as much a tradition as “thanking the Academy” on award’s night is dissecting the styles and looks from the Oscars and making them your own.   While you may not go all out J-Lo for your next date night – even a touch of new trend can update your look and keep you in the here and now.  Here’s the cliff notes version from this year’s big event:

Glimmer’s a Winner

Metallics are magic for instant glamour. Gold, silver, and platinum are the elements of style this season.  Glitz up your next table-for-two with a mini Sandra Bullock, a microdress in Oscar gold; here’s one from Express at Los Cerritos Center.  Or, set the stage for something a little more subtle, and choose some flat strappy sandals in a dark grey metal hue for a casual take on this look.

Ann Taylor, The Oaks.

Watercolor Wonder

If you haven’t warmed up to this trend yet – take note - the soft wash of watercolor prints are making a splash in Hollywood and beyond.  Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams dipped their toes in this up-and-coming look this year, and retailers are following suit.  In a conservative cut, they bring some excitement to the neutral tones of typical business wear (see this office appropriate sheath dress from Ann Taylor at The Oaks), or just a bit of spandex can put an evening-out spin on this whimsical trend.

Nordstrom, Westside Pavilion.

Pinch-Your-Cheeks Pink

This barely-there shade of blushing pink is breathing life into the season.  Offset by creamy skin, and natural makeup, this dewy hue, is a “do”.  Put on a cashmere cardi, ruffled tank or sultry slip dress in this subtle shade, and let sweetness reign.  Here is an Anna Kendrick hued dress from Nordstrom at Westside Pavilion.

Ruffles, You Can’t Have Just One

Who didn’t catch Vera Farmiga’s deep fuschia fanned number, or notice Diane Kruger’s layers of rippled pale pink.  Ultra feminine ruffles are girly and great, and thankfully everywhere.  Tie on a twisty tucked scarf, or show it off with a ruffled clutch like this version from Nine West at Los Cerritos Center.
