In the heart of Bellevue, situated between the older Bellevue business area around Krogers and the newer businesses near the interstate, is Red Caboose Park. Listed on some maps as Bellevue Park, the small community park is an excellent place to have a picnic, bring the kids to play, utilize the exercise path, or enjoy live music.
The neighborhood park does have a red caboose on the premises which children can climb on as well as a rustic log cabin back in the treeline. The Bellevue Comfort Station sits near the caboose, resembling a depot.
Red Caboose Park also features a large fort playground area for children, three covered picnic areas including a gazebo, several other picnic table and a moderate-sized field for families to enjoy. On the green are frequently seen kids playing ball, couples enjoying a picnic on a blanket, and kids flying kites and planes.
There is also an exercise track for walker, joggers and runners. The exercise path is marked with two signs which clearly state no bicycles, skateboards or skates are allowed on the track to prevent kids on wheels: including bicycles, tricycles, skates, skateboards and skooters, from barreling down the hill and running into the dog walkers, joggers or the older walkers who use the paved path. No wheels on the exercise path! There is also a sign next to the track near the comfort station that lets walkers and joggers know one lap around the track equals one fifth of a mile.
Beside the exercise path next to the parking lot is a water fountain which serves humans and their four-legged friends. Red Caboose Park is dog friendly.
Red Caboose Park is next to the Bellevue community center and across the street from three churches on the corner of Highway 70 and Colice Jeanne Road.
